Legendary Wargames put on a cold war scenario called The Iron Curtain Parts at the Partizan 2 show at Newark on 6 September 2015. The game was a what-if scenario based in the late 1970’s along the Iron Curtain border. Following increased hostilities between the USSR and NATO, the Russians had now launched ground strikes at multiple points all along the Iron Curtain borders. For this game we saw strong Russian Armoured units trying to push their way through British and West German defensive elements near a frontier town in West Germany. Their objective was to push through the defensive line towards an air field base off table. Russian paratroopers have been dropped at a small town near a bridge over a river linking two axis of advance for their main forces. A German task force has been sent to clear the town and secure the Bridge. The main Russian spearhead is faced with a Chieftan battalion supported by a British infantry Brigade and miscellaneous other units.
We were using Rapid Fire rules with amendments for additional Armour and Gun Classes plus some extra new rules.

A picture taken by the Russian right flank player to record the brewing of a British Chieftan that tried a sneaky shot round the edge of the hill at oncoming T55’s. The smoke encompassed a small bulb that when switched on looks like flickering fire in the smoke. Very ingenious Mr C.
A view from the other end of the table towards the end of the game. Aircraft from both sides are now on table. Richard has just teleported in, hence the fuzziness. Either that or he is auditioning for the next series of Marvel’s “The Flash”!
The game got a lot of interest as it is not something that is normally seen at shows. There were quite a few ex services gamers that stopped to have a chat and pass on their experiences and thoughts which was great to hear. Thanks to them.
We finished the game with the British and German forces still pretty much in tact, and quite a bit of Russian Armour destroyed. Realistic?
