The Columns, advancing slowly, still forming are still under the gaze of the Dervishes and the Sudan Bugle reporters.
The River column, with the 19th Hussars to the fore, discover and drive off a group of Mahdists.
The Desert column was rearranging itself when a Dervish force appeared on its flank.
This caused a quick formation change from the Bombay infantry. The West Kent’s hurry forward to support.
The Bengal cavalry scouting ahead for the Desert column formed quickly to support.
The Mahdists, seeing this overwhelming force turned tail and withdrew.
Finally Major Kitchener reached the Desert Column, to pass on his scouting report.
Better late than never! The Heavy Camel Regt’ arrives.
With more Dervishes arriving but either out of range or showing no inclination to attack, the only thing left is a couple more photos.
So far, so good. I’m sure that the Imperial commanders are nervous.
