Over the weekend of 18 and 19 January 2020, Legendary Wargames hosted a group of friends for a Cold War mega game. We had played a short introductory scenario before Christmas in which the East Germans and Russians had broken across the border and hit the surprised British and German defenders who had been “wargaming” a breakthrough scenario. Additionally, all the set up and the first two moves of the game were played on Thursday 16th January to get things moving. Here are some shots of the game.
Main picture – a view from the Allied end of the table looking up to the attack on the top table. Later in the game, East Germans again surprised the allies by attacking the town on the left hand middle table.
A view from the Russian attack end of the tables. A battered T62 battalion is being followed by T72’s.
T72’s from another angle to the previous picture. Excellent looking models provided for the day by Dave Green. Thanks Dave.
The Russian centre after taking heavy casualties in the first few moves.
Infantry elements breaking into the first town on the Russian right that was lightly defending by half a British regular battalion.
British reinforcements urgently moving into the line to face the oncoming T72’s.
British Scimitars testing out the “no speed limit” policy on the German autobahn!
Put this one in for Jerry Miller. The first successful Russian air attack causes two light damages to my Chieftans. Phew! Escaped that one.
Three RAF Jaguars go to town on the Russian armour. Well they tried to with limited success. You can’t legislate for bad dice!
And not to be out done, the Harrier boys had a go as well. Equally unsuccessful.
Another view of the Russian centre looking up the table.
This whole game was a test run for our hosted weekend on 08 Feb 2020 as shown on our Events page. We still have some places left, so if you would like to come along and see how you can do, please follow the link on the events page.
