On the weekend of 7th / 8th August we celebrated the Birthday of Jerry Miller (pictured right) by refighting the battle of Borodino.
The game played out with around 7000 figures which equated to around 90 battalions, 20 to 24 cavalry regiments, and 50 guns per side, all from the private collection of Chris Flowers.
Here are some more pictures of the action.
Opening moves as the French advance.
The grand redoubt fell early in the game to massed French columns.
The Poles have taken Utitsa, half the wood to its flank, and can just about be seen going into the Fleches (top right).
Early in the second day from the Russian backline, the French continue to sweep on.
And late in the second day, Jerry (Napoleon) surveys down the table, admiring how well his boys have done.
A final picture down the line of all the participants
All in all, a fantastic weekend of gaming after 18 months in the wargames dolldrums courtesy of Covid. Great to see old friends and new friends, play and have a chat and a laugh together.
It was also a great play test for our Borodino 2 weekend on 28 and 29 August 2021. Watch out for that one to see if it plays the same.
